What if people in Japan in 1910 had modern technology? MidJourney can do it.

Imagine if it was 1899 in Tokyo Japan and people were using computers. Let’s see what MidJourney comes up with. It all starts with a prompt.

Prompt: People in 1899 Japan using modern technology

Great start. Let’s add more to the prompt.
Prompt: Businessmen in 1899 Japan using modern technology

Again, this is really good. I really like how MidJourney is using photographs from the time. Still, it’s not quite what I’m looking for.

Prompt: Businessmen in suits in 1899 Japan using laptop computers and smartphones

We’re getting close to what I am looking for. I would say variation 4 is the best one so far. Let’s add more to the prompt. Let’s make this a color image as well as 16:9 resolution. Let’s also change the year to 1910. MidJourney might be getting confused about the time of the source photographs. While historically 1899 and 1910 might not be different, we have to phrase our prompts in a way that MidJourney understands.

Prompt: Businessmen in suits in 1910 Japan using laptop computers and smartphones, color –ar 16:9

This is more of what I wanted from the beginning. I think that 16:9 is not wide enough. Let’s try a 2:1 aspect ratio. We should also add more detail to the background by adding detailed background in the prompt.

Prompt: Businessmen in suits in 1910 Japan using laptop computers and smartphones, color, detailed background –ar 2:1

Let’s add oil painting to the prompt.

Prompt: Businessmen in suits in 1910 Japan using laptop computers and smartphones, color, detailed background, oil painting –ar 2:1

I did two renders to see which one I like the most.

I think version 3 of the first image is the best. Let’s see what the variations come out as.

Version 4 looks the best. I like mostly because there is the most amount of technology in the shot. As well we can see it from an older period in Japan. I also find it strange that there is one man in a white suit. I’m not sure why MidJourney did this but I think it looks good.

I think this looks pretty good. Some of the heads look a bit odd but I love how modern technology can be incorporated into different time periods. It’s endless fun.
