How to make a product shot in MidJourney. Coffee product.

Making product shots in MidJourney is fun. Of course, if you have to do this for a client, then it might take a lot more time than you would expect. The reason is that MidJourney, AI art generation, and stable diffusion aren’t really designed to give exact results. You can see this with the variations. You could generate infinite variations and none of them would come out exactly the same. Let’s start with a prompt. Be sure to include product-view as this will give you the best camera angle.

Prompt: A coffee product shot, product-view

As you can see it’s very good. We’re almost ready to go. Let’s play around with it. Let’s see if we can get it to do 3 different roasts.

Prompt: A coffee product shot, 3 different roasts, product-view

This also looks great. However, we still need to add more details. I liked the beans on the table as well as the steaming cup of coffee in the background. Let’s add in a vague command like “detailed background” and see what it comes up with. If that doesn’t work we’ll have to be more specific.

This time we didn’t have to be specific. If you really wanted a cup of coffee, beans on the table, a sack of coffee in the background, you would have to add it. This image looks great, Let’s add in the –quality 5 parameter to get a better render.

Prompt: A coffee product shot, 3 different roasts, detailed background, product-view –quality 5

As you can see, the background on this image was not as good. We need to try it again. We’ll add very detailed background to the prompt.

Prompt: A coffee product shot, 3 different roasts, very detailed background, product-view –quality 5

Not bad, but as you can see, getting very specific results is harder than you would expect it to be. Let’s add more detail to the prompt.

Prompt: A coffee product shot, 3 different roasts, very detailed background, coffee beans on the table, a steaming cup of coffee on the table, product-view –quality 5

It’s getting farther away from what we wanted. Let’s add in another prompt to be more specific.

Prompt: A coffee product shot, 3 different roasts in bags, very detailed background, coffee beans on the table, a steaming cup of coffee on the table, product-view –quality 5

Now we have what we were looking for. I like version 4 the best so let’s push V4 and make some variations.

I think version 4 is the best again. Let’s upscale it and see what the final result is.

Wow. This is exactly what I was looking for. This shows you the workflow that you want to take. First, start off with something vague so you can get a better result by serendipity. As you want more specific results, slowly add in more detail. Sometimes this process doesn’t work in MidJourney. This time it did. I am happy with the result. If you’ll excuse me, I need to finish my morning cup of coffee.
