How to make a bicycle time machine in MidJourney

In this tutorial, we’re going to take two different concepts and see how MidJourney handles them. In this case, we’re going to take a bicycle and see what it would look like if it were a time machine. Of course, time machines don’t exist. Let’s start with a simple prompt.

Prompt: A bicycle time machine

I love how it came up with a penny farthing as a type of bicycle. It’s probably referencing the book The Time Machine which was written in 1895. Bicycles were new at the time and some historians have suggested that H.G Wells actually thought his time machine was a bicycle. Although, this is up for debate. Anyway, I also like how it put text in the first variation like it was some sort of movie. MidJourney is certainly inferring a lot more than the simple prompt. Let’s try another one to narrow it down. Let’s add complexity to the prompt. We could simply add complex or we could add ornate. Ornate gives a lot more frivolous detail.

Prompt: A bicycle time machine, ornate

Version 2 looks great. let’s try some different words. I’ll be switching out the last word

Complex

Complexity

Intricate

I think intricate looks the best. However, ornate could also work. It all depends on what you’re going for. I find the #1 use for MidJourney is adding detail that would be hard for a human to do so I’m going to go with the most detail possible. Let’s try another prompt, this time let’s make the quality better. I’m also going to add a product-view. This will put the camera as if the time machine is a product to sell.

Prompt: A Bicycle Time machine, intricate, 32k, product-view –quality 5

Let’s do two more redraws

Redraw #1

Redraw #2

Redraw #3

I’m actually blown away that there are so many good ones. However, after looking at all of these, I think Redraw #1 version 4 is the best. Let’s make 4 variations.

Variations

I like version #1 so let’s upscale it and see what happens.

Here is the final image. Which looks great. Let’s take a recap of what we did. We make sure that we had a very detailed model and that we used an intricate style. This works well because it’s hard for humans to make this kind of detail. In addition, we added a product-view to the prompt. I find whenever you are making an image that could be shown like a product, it’s best to use it. It gives great results.

Overall, I’m impressed that two words, time machine, and bicycle could fit together so well with MidJourney. I half expect to see someone from the past roll up on one of these.
